The list of uses of this medicine are as follows:
  • stomach ulcers (duodenal ulcers)
  • a hypersecretory condition in which the stomach produces more than normal amount of acid (Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and systemic mastocytosis)
  • stomach ulcers which are not harmful in effect (active and benign gastric ulcer)
  • the symptoms of backflow of stomach acid in the food pipe (gastroesophageal reflux disease, GERD)
  • the inflammation of food pipe as well as the maintenance of healing of the inflamed food pipe (erosive esophagitis)
  • stomach ulcers associated with NSAIDs
  • treat stomach ulcers due to bacterial infection by Helicobacter pylori, post-operative conditions
  • treat a digestive disease where stomach acid irritates the lining of the food pipe (oesophageal reflux disease including long-term management of healed oesophagitis)
  • digestive tract bleeding due to stress ulceration in ill patients
  • repetitive bleeding with bleeding stomach ulcers
  • the risk of aspiration of stomach contents (Mendelson's syndrome) during pregnancy before giving anesthesia which is the temporary loss of consciousness
  • the symptoms of backflow of stomach acid in the food pipe and inflammation of food pipe (gastro-oesophageal reflux, reflux oesophagitis and symptomatic relief of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease) in children
