About the Class

What will you learn in this course?

  • Overview of long and short vowels and how they are different. For example, if you are a non-native speaker, you may need to be careful with certain sounds like "i" and "e" so you say your words correctly in a way Americans understand, and it will also make reading English easier too.
  • Letters A, E, I, O, and U - long and short with examples and videos to help to understand these differences.
  • R-controlled vowels - when we put a vowel and R together - it changes it - like "bird" and "world".
  • What are diphthongs? Two vowel sounds put together to form one sound - like "oy" in the boy.
  • The 18 consonants and why some are tricky to say, especially for non-native speakers - like "v" and "w".
  • Two consonants (Blends like "br" and "tr") and two blended consonants (Digraphs like "th", "wh", "ch" and "sh").
  • Ways to practice each vowel and consonant by seeing patterns and using them in everyday speech.
