Welcome to Chapter five, part five of this course how to speak so that people want to listen, we're going to be going into the lighter side of the Force. Now we've looked at the dark side, the holes in your bucket. What I want to share with you in this chapter is how to listen consciously. If you remember, we've got this circular relationship between speaking and listening. And I can't emphasize this strongly enough. It's more complex, perhaps, than even I said at the beginning.

The way I speak affects the way you listen and the way you listen affects the way I speak. So it has a powerful pull on conversation in that way. Also, the way I speak, affects the way you speak, because we tend to mix and match and mirror and we tend to respond to the pace and the energy levels and the style of speaking Also, the way I listen affects the way you listen. Which means the way you listen affects the way everybody listens to you how well you're received, how powerfully you can speak, and get your message across. So listening is crucial. If you become a great listener, you will be received more powerfully.

So in this section of the course, we're going to look at some of the exercises that I love that really improve the way you can listen powerfully. We'll look at your relationship with silence, and we'll move on to some really extremely effective exercises, the mixer savoring, listening from listening positions, rasa, the four C's of powerful listening of effective listening, which I certainly haven't shared before, on the TED stage. And also I would like to end by looking at Some of the issues with listening in organizations, it's quite possible that a lot of the speaking you do is speaking in an organizational context, not at home but at work or presenting to other organizations. It really helps to be aware of the hurdles, you have to jump over the issues with organizational listening, that are out there, because it may just help you to understand it might not all be about you.

A lot of it can be about the organization. They're terrible at listening. And there are reasons for that, and we'll be looking at ways to circumvent that in the future parts of this course. So, how to become a powerful conscious listener. Enjoy
