Alright, let's take a look at the G major scale. I'll first demonstrate it for you. And then you can play along. Don't worry, I'll go really slow. But for the demonstration, don't worry about doing anything. Just you can watch.

No descending. All right, so I'm gonna go really slow, just one note at a time. Let's start You can follow along, do the best you can to follow along. If it's going too fast, just pause it, find that note, play it, and then hit play again and continue on from there. Let's start. So it's G, the first note, which is the third fret on the low E string.

Next note is a, open A string, B, second fret on the A string, C, third fret on the A string. D is the open D string, e second fret on the D string. Now we're gonna play a note called F sharp which is the fourth fret you can play it with your ring finger. What you find that one, then G, which is the open G And then we'll do the next octave. So a second fret on the G, B, open B string, C is first fret on the B string, D is third fret on the B string is F sharp and then G. Let's go back down. G, F sharp, e, d, c, p A G, F sharp on the fourth fret of the D string e, d, CB.

Hey, and then G. So it's a good idea to practice that without saying anything. You don't have to say any notes. Do that a number of times so you get semi comfortable with it. You can just pause the video and look at the diagram and just follow along as best you can. Or you can go back and play along With me like I did there, once you're comfortable working out the fingering and the frets on what string in that sort of thing, then it's a good idea to go back and say the notes as you play them like G, A, etc. No, another good thing to do is to say what's called the scale degrees.

The first note G would be called the root note. The second note a is the second note or just to the scale degree number two. Scale degree number three would be B. C is four, right? So you just got root 234567. There's your seven different notes and then back to the root note.

So if you want you could go back and play the scale saying the scale that So route 2345, etc. Give it a try. You don't have to, but it's it does help later on. When you go to play different songs and someone's using numbers and you're like, what does that mean? Then you'll know Oh, the third note in G is a B, or the fourth note is a C, things like that. And in case you're wondering, the F sharp, that little number sign, that's what means sharp or that's what implies sharp, F sharp.

You don't have to think too much about that right now. But what that does mean is the sharp means you go up a half step, or this way along the neck a half step. So for example, f is ready. We'll do the high E string F is right here. F sharp is up one half step there. And that's why we get that G, A, B, C, D, E, F sharp, G. It just works in the major scale.

Now what we're going to do is learn how to read what's called tablature, or tab, guitar tab. You might have heard that before. If you go online to ultimate guitar Comm. You can see a ton of it there. And so it'd be a really good idea to just start to get familiar with it. Again, there'll be a diagram at the bottom.

And I'm going to go along really slow to show you how to read that diagram. So you'll see that there are six lines just like in the other diagram I used for the scales. Same idea at the bottom line is the low E string. Then going up from there, a string, D GB IE. So the bottom line is the low Eastern. Just get orientated there.

The bottom line is the low Eastern. Now what you're going to see are numbers. And I'm going to use the G major scale as a demonstration. So what are you going to see our numbers, you'll see, the first note in the G major scale is G. Now, that's the third fret on the low E string. So do you see how there's on the low E string, there's the number three. That means the third fret on the low E string.

Now, if you look at the next note, it's an A. And you'll see how there's a zero on the A string. That means just to play that open. Play that string open the zero means play To a string open, then you'll see a number two on a string. So it means find the second fret on the A string, which is our B, right familiar territory here. Then you'll see the third fret or a number three, on that same line on the same a string line, third fret on the A string.

Then you'll see on the next string, it'll say, zero, which is the D open string, or the open D string, and so on. So it's a good idea to also play through the G major scale using the tab just to get started reading tablature. Now let's go to the next lesson, where I'll show you three riffs or small melodies to play in the G major scale.
