Hello, and welcome to How gratitude is a cultivated practice. In this lecture, we'll talk about exactly what the lecture describes how you cultivate gratitude as a practice. And then in the next lecture, we'll get into those actual practices, a little more Strategies for Success and what the different practices are. And keep in mind that you're not limited to just these. But these are just some that I've come up with and seen in other places over the years and put together for your benefit. And so gratitude, like many worthwhile pursuits, is a cultivated practice, and that if you do not consciously work at it day by day, it will not self maintain.

It seems like everything in life is work, but sometimes doing a little work up front saves you more work and especially paying down the road. And so that can be a good thing because once you see the benefits of a practice, put into motion, the payoffs for the work that's, it's great. Practicing gratitude can be done in multiple ways, for example, including daily access exercises, being mindful of what one is grateful for in the moment, taking moments during the day to focus on blessings, and cultivating gratitude and challenging moments. Those are different ways to practice gratitude. And so gratitude is daily practice, it retrains the mind so that gratitude becomes an automatic response daily and increases the quality of one's life and level of joy. The mind can be rewired over time.

And even if you are conditioned to think about the downside of things like I have been, I believe it is never too late to change one's mindset and this one's life. So many people think that once they are conditioned to think negatively to worry about life's challenges and get angry about situations that they just see as unfair. They are just stuck doing that for the rest of their life no matter what they do. For example, I was conditioned, negatively As a child for various reasons, and in various circumstances, and I remember my parents trying to raise me to think gratefully. But there were some issues as well, that set my delicate minded to patterns of negativity during key moments that I can trace to specific days where I chose to look at a situation negatively. And it wired my mind negatively that way for a lifetime.

And so I've spent my life battling with patterns and means, in my mind that never seemed to be rewired. My automatic response seemed to return to what could go wrong, what is wrong in the situation? What makes me angry how unfair life is and what is wrong with the world in general. And so I've spent years studying scriptures, doing affirmations, praying, reading books, and years of studying and doing practices and working over and over and over and over again, to get my mind to recondition itself on gratitude and positive thinking. So that those thoughts are automatic, and I know that At 100% of my thoughts will never be that way. But I continue to endeavor to practice it and work on it day by day.

And so when I slack off or forget, I simply come back to the practice after I've slacked off without getting mad at myself, because that doesn't accomplish anything either. In the past, I would have beat up on myself for the US. But now I've learned not to scold myself as much. And gratitude is the antidote along with other healthy practices like healthy eating and exercise and contributing to society, and so on, that when you practice it consistently, it never lets you down. And so some options for making gratitude a daily practice and that's making it come more naturally throughout day in and day out, include keeping a gratitude journal, which can be done in several ways. Sorry, doing a daily gratitude devotional from a text, doing gratitude affirmations, meditating on a gratitude concept or a particular thing for which you're grateful meditating on what is below.

Leave what you're believing for with a grateful heart, for example, the creative visualization, and reading and repeating sayings about gratitude or other positive things. And so all of those can be effective ways to recondition you and reprogram you with a daily life that is more full of abundance, attracting more abundance. And so gratitude is a choice, as I stated earlier, and that choice is to put specific techniques into practice. And we will discuss these techniques in the next few lectures. And there is a PDF that shows you how to put the 11 practices into action in your life. And actually, there's more than 11 if you look at some of the other strategies in the course, but I've put some of the more concrete daily ones that you can actually do right then into one PDF, and then you have the quick wins and some of the other strategies and some of the other lectures.

But we will discuss those techniques in the next few lectures with the PDF and so you can start seeing those results quickly. As I know you want to in your life, and so I'll see you in the next lecture, which is one of the core parts of the course.
