In this section, we're going to talk about some of the different types of meditation that are available today. We are so different when it comes down to it. And there is not just one type of meditation that's going to work for everybody. So I want to go over some of the types of meditation that are available out there. So you can maybe get a grasp on the best type of practice for you. Now, the first one I want to talk about is mindful meditation.

And this is probably the most common out of all of the meditations that we're going to be talking about. Mindfulness is a form of meditation that urges the practitioner to remain aware and present in the moment, rather than dwelling on the past or dreading the future. Mindfulness encourages awareness of a person's action. resisting surroundings. This is crucial to help you really just stay mindful and to be present in the moment and not allow yourself to dwell on the past or think of the future. Because really, at the end of the day, all we have is right now.

So this is a really great practice for someone who is like me, because this is the meditation that I most commonly practice, who is always five steps ahead of the game and is always trying to figure out everything that's going to happen in the future. And you just need to be present in the moment and not allow your mind to wander and get anxious and worry about things that we cannot control. Now, another different form of meditation, is metta meditation and the goal is to cultivate an attitude of love and kindness towards everything. Even To your enemies, and most importantly yourself. So this is a really great and powerful meditation. If you are someone who gets really down on yourself if you tend to beat yourself up if you suffer from low self esteem metta meditation might just help you.

You know, give yourself the love that you deserve. Another form of meditation is Zen meditation. And this form of meditation is actually part of the Buddhist practice. And many Zen practitioners study under a teacher, because this type of meditation involves specific steps and postures. This, this meditation is one step up from mindfulness meditation, and the goal is to find a comfortable position. focus on your breathing and mindfully observe your thoughts without judgment.

Again, if you start out with with mindfulness meditation, and then you find a point on your journey where you might want to try something else. Then meditation is a wonderful, wonderful practice. And it allows you to really bring your mindfulness journey to the next level. Another form of meditation is transcendental meditation. Now Transcendental Meditation got popular back in the 1960s, or 70s, I believe, and this is the type of meditation that Yogi Bhajan brought to the United States and became very popular through the Beatles actually, as well as other famous actors. Ellen DeGeneres practices, transcendental meditation, as well as Hugh Jackman.

And Transcendental Meditation is a very spiritual form of meditation, where practitioners Remain seated and breathe slowly. The goal is to transcend or rise above the person's current state of being. And during this sort of meditation, the practitioners focus on a specific mantra or a repeated word or series of words. And a teacher determines the mantra based on a complex set of factors. You know, sometimes including the year and and the practitioner does have to be trained to do this. So you do want to go on tm calm if this is something that you're interested in.

There are Transcendental Meditation teachers all throughout the United States, and I believe actually in the world, so you do need a trained teacher for this type of meditation. Another form of meditation is Kundalini Yoga, and Kundalini Yoga is A active form of meditation that blends movements and deep breathing and mantras. People usually learn from a teacher or they do a class. However, there you can do these poses and mantras at home. As you can see in the photo, you usually wear white during the meditation or the session, the Kundalini yoga session, and it is being someone who tried it I do set I can honestly say that this is an extremely, extremely powerful form of meditation. But it is a little bit different than your common mindfulness meditation.

So this might be for you if maybe you can't sit still and you want to incorporate movement into your practice. Now the next section, I'm going to talk briefly about some of the guided meditations that I have have included in this course. So I will see you in the next section.
