In this segment I'm going to show how to lay on hair and give Anthony a small goatee and mustache. The thing with hair as you build from the bottom up here in the neck grows in a downward direction. I'll see out of the chin, it goes down and then the angle changes this way and the same with the mustache shutters down so you always start from the bottom layer and go up. usually leave quarter of an inch between rows because as you're laying it, the hair lays over. So unlike real hair that grows out of all your pores and forms a mat or doing indiscriminant rows and filling it in that more hair you lay on the sticks or your rows more dense, your beards going to be and then once we have it all in place, and we'll trim it and style it the Glue I'm going to use to do this is Prozac adhesive.

Again, it goes on milky and will dry clear. And when it dries, it's always sticky, which we want so that our hair will stay put next hairstylist, work free then you can carefully just touch the end and now reattach themselves. So next you need crepe hair. That's what we're going to use for hair. This is a crepe Well, it comes in a braid like this. You can do a lot to do a beard, you want to use at least three different colors.

I've used a steam iron to flatness. For those of you who still iron clothes, you know what I'm talking about? The steam flattens the wall and then when you break it up Notice it actually looks like hair. So I'm going to cut this into about a two inch, three inch length and mix it with two other colors. Because hair is not one tone. If you look at anybody out on the street, even the blondes, the real blondes have two or three shades of blonde because we're the sun hits your hair, it lightens it more your hair gets thicker, it's darker underneath.

Auburn people have read mixed in with the brown and, and so on. So here's our three colors that I'm going to mix up and blend into one. And this will be what we're using to create our small beard with. So basically, you break up the hair, two strands Some people will use what's called a hackle. It looks like a brush with all fine metal teeth and they'll pull it through and pull it through until they mix it. Your hands work just fine.

If you knew you're doing a huge big beard, you might want to use one of them but so you just keep going straight through. It takes a few minutes and you mix it so if you knew you were going to do this in the morning you could prep your hair the night before or come in a little early for work. And try to blend it all together. Alright, so this is what your hair should look like after you've pulled it apart and mixed. The red as it was a predominant color even though there were three shades of brown so our beards going to be already brown you can still see streaks of the other colors in it. So it'll actually look more realistic.

Again, you could keep pulling out this and pulling out this, but it gets to a point where you say okay enough already and you start laying it on. So you try to keep everything running vertically. And here we go. Put a little pose it in a cup and then Anthony hold it. It's good to engage your model sometimes, especially on a long makeup, it keeps them involved and makes the time go faster. Like I said, we're going to start from the bottom and work our way up.

So I'm gonna apply glue in about an inch under here. This using a normal makeup wedge. You don't want to end just set the jaw line because it looks fake because I have a beard and you can see that Even though I trim it, it looks better if you go under insert down there, you can always remove the hair if it's too much. Now traditionally, these were applied with the spirit gum. People still do it. There's nothing wrong with it.

The difference being spirit gum is an alcohol based glue. It irritates some scan, and it dries really quickly. But when it dries, it dries solid and it loses all its tax. So you have to tap it with your finger to get it really sticky. quickly put your hair into it. And then let it lay.

If your model happens to drink a lot, and as the day goes on, and they start to perspire, the alcohol will come through their perspiration and it actually starts to break down the glue and suddenly you'll notice hunks of hair falling out. You don't have that with this procedure. water based. And it always stays sticky unless powdered so it's more desirable for this. So basically, I'm flattening a little bit of hair. You want to spread it out then and get your end even.

So we're going to do some trimming. So again, you want a thin wide kind of first and remember, we're doing layers so you're not trying to make the solid line. So first we will trim our ends to square them up. And I'm gonna go down about and that's about all we need. So I'm gonna let it turn that there, however way the excess here obviously if I were working on a makeup station I wouldn't be doing this on the table. I'm going to take my hair and press it.

The tips, just the tips into the glue and see how it hold and then just use your finger basically fold over, that's called laying on hair. So we need to keep doing this all the way around and in rows to show the sin. So then we go back to our cut hair. If you wanted a longer beard, you could put it on like that, but we don't be wasting a lot of hair so so you can see by what we're using that you want to have mixed enough colors. So again, just pushing the tips into the glue. Gun, don't worry about it being solid Can you just hold it down and you can use this to make a werewolf.

I saw Amish beard, whatever. As you see just even adding a second clump, how dense it's getting. Those are very thin rows and every time we add some it'll keep getting thicker and thicker touch why you really want to spread your hair. Again, the great thing about the pro Zed it's been around a while it's dried clear, and it's still very tacky. Not having to go back and constantly add more glue and don't Whereas if you pull away little pieces, like I said, you're kind of grooming it with your fingers as you're going along, playing it on making it more dense. Okay, so we've kind of filled it in the bottom.

Getting a little carried away with my gotay was slowly turning into a beard. Bringing it in and we're now working on the chin. Same thing is spread your hair out, pointed straight into the tips into the glue and then let it drape over to carefully touch dance, that's fine as well. This is a very tedious and messy job. Some people like it, I can say it's not one of my favorite things to do later. If it seems too dense, you can start sending out here Try to keep the glue where you want the hair to be.

Don't go well beyond because ugliness does have a bit of a machine. You could try this with a hairdryer but then it stirs up all the hair so I prefer to let the adhesive dry on its own. can always go back with the dry part of your sponge and tack it up by removing some excess to, again put it on in thin layers. As you get closer to the mouth, you're probably going to slowly start shortening up the length of your hair a little bit. So we're getting a little shorter, not quite so long or as dense If you're duplicating somebody's beard sometimes some people can't grow here in certain areas or gets really thin other people. They're human follicles they grow hair everywhere there's a port a hair Oh papa.

I'm going to do oh under the nose. The hair usually goes right to this bowl. So try to keep your blue on the upper lip using that bold ESEA. Sir, your guideline, you don't need to go beyond that. If we were doing a full beard, you'd probably end your line. Somewhere here, under the cheekbone it would get really thin at this top row and then send down.

Now if you were going to do a full beard a lace beard would be Way better solution. This is again some last minute thing someone's asked you to do and you didn't have any anything else so you're going to build the beard on your own because you would not want to have to do this every morning on an actor. Cray piers great if you have lace, and let's say you couldn't get the super fine television lace and you had to use a more heavier theatrical lace you could use some this hair and sporadically put it around the edge of the lace to help blend it so it wouldn't catch the eye. Our hairs are getting shorter, because we don't need super long hair from mustache. Again, as you're laying it, start to style it center you should get a nice little grouping some heavier bit there, fill that in, in our cycle on a little bit of an angle.

Because again, you want that division because the hair and a mustache, you're combing it splits in the middle. Everybody has their own way of doing this. When it comes to instruction there's really no right or wrong way just what's it look like in the end? That's all that matters. To me the fun part, getting hair in the models knows they're gonna love you. Jenna Moyes directing With my fingers trying to give us some kind of a style.

So as I get closer to the middle here, I'm going to start cutting the hair on an angle. I'm trying to get the hair to grow away from that center. Now I'm just going in a few spots, then I'll trim it up and actually style it a bit. I'm no barber so that's why most shows we have a hair department. Make friends. Quick one to dawn on you can use different hair waxes and products to help hair sprays as well to help get into a shape and stay that way.

Very lightly, you can comment tend to just use my fingers and brush through it. Because every time you do that you're going to be pulling hair out. So very carefully you tend it and shape it and make it where you want it to be. Alright, so that's roughly our laid on beard you can go over the edges with a special Can you want to press the top edges you don't want to be pressing the whole hair or you're pressing the five of the hair into the glue. And now we have this now we start shaping all your extra hair and loose hair. Keep it in may need it Depending on what the action is and what your character has to do, they could be shedding most of the day.

So you're going to be patching this constantly. So I have a comb to try and I'm going to tend to use the wider gap teeth. So I don't pull things out. And we're going to try and shape this up and make them look a little more cloth. As I say. Yeah, if you want to fit in a bit, you'll notice when you come in how it starts to pull out, loose hairs.

That way, if you have a thick spot, that's how you spin it, but very slowly starting to look a little more civilized and take some hairspray Hold on no hair in English bird now. Wait on beard
