Welcome to step five. Okay, so now you've made it to the day of the interview. You've completed all your planning and preparation. You have all your questions and your research completed. And hopefully you've got a good night's sleep. Now we need to get you at your peak performance.

Nerves. Nerves can be your biggest enemy. So let's look at where nerves come from your nerves, nervousness, insecurity, anxiety and stress all come from one place your imagination. Think about it. It's your imagination that's creating these feelings. It's your imagination that is saying, What if I'm late?

What if I fumble my answers? What if I'm asked a question that I'm unable to answer? I should never have gone for this role. I'm sure someone else is better than me. Now none of these thoughts are going to be of any benefit to you. And in fact, they're going to negatively impact your chances of being offered the position.

As I said in an earlier lecture, how you think is how you feel, and how you feel is how you will communicate to the interviewers. So how can you create a positive feeling rather than a negative one? Here is a very simple exercise that you should use before the interview. I want you to imagine that you have a piece of glass, okay? And a marker pen. And on that piece of glass, I want you to write down all these negative thoughts you're having.

Now see how you're they're cluttering your mind and distracting you from what you've what you've carried out all your preparation and planning up to this moment. Now, take a look at this piece of glass right? And all the negativity that you've written on it, right? I want you to pick this piece of glass up, okay? And guess what? I'm going to smash it Smash it down onto the ground and break it, okay, and see yourself destroying all this internal negative talk.

And if more negative thoughts come back and your mind into your mind straightaway, again, I want you to pick up this glass. Are you writing back all these thoughts? Oh no, but I'm still not good enough, right when you pick it up again, as smashing Instagram, and this right is going to happen all up right up to the moment that you walk into this interview. I want you to continually smash this glass of negativity. Now eventually, you should start to write down some positive statements, okay, feelings on this piece of glass things like you know what I have the experience and the confidence that I can do this role and I'd like to work for this company, and I think it would be fun to work here and I've done all the research I need to be ready for this job. Okay, and other positive thoughts, any other positive thoughts you can think of start writing these down and removing these negative ones as we just Just in the planning lecture, it's critical that you don't arrive late.

Now to minimize these nerves and stresses that you're going to have consider arriving on the location of the relocation at least 30 minutes prior to your interview, and then find a coffee shop or a park somewhere, somewhere quiet and just some way that you can settle down and get your head about you. Okay? And I want you to sit down and have a glass of water. Now firstly, this is going to help you it's going to stop your mouth from drying out which nerves will tend to do to you. Now the reason I suggest water rather than coffee is the caffeine again may affect the state of your mind make you a little bit hyper. And prior to the interview.

You don't want to do this. And also if you can imagine, you know you're drinking from a hot cup of coffee. You don't want to risk spilling it down in front and everything that we've done early on preparation. Okay, really important here. Arrive at reception. 10 minutes before the interview.

Now why 10 minutes? Well, there's nothing There's nothing worse than being on an interview panel as I've been on before, and being informed that someone has arrived 30 minutes early. Because what this does, it puts a lot of pressure on the interviewers to see you sooner. And this is something that you want want them to do is this is going to actually affect their preparation time. For example, they might want to review your CV again, or they might want to go over the questions with the other interviewers. So if you're sitting at reception, they know that it can put a little bit of pressure on them.

Now also, also, just as importantly, you don't want to arrive just minutes before the interview. Again, as what's going to happen is the interviewers might be calling reception, say hey, you know as the person arrived, and then what's going to happen is they're going to start thinking that you're going to be late so you don't want to be creating any possible negative thoughts about you before you've even entered the room. What the 10 minute buffer does is allows you to arrive at the right time. It gives you time to sit down and get your thoughts together and probably smash that class again. Another tip I would suggest is to take a handkerchief or a small piece of cloth with you, so you can wipe your hands before entering the interview. I know this from personal experiences when I was being interviewed, in my younger days, I'd get quite sweaty.

Another reason why you don't want to be late or rushing in, and there is nothing worse than shaking hands with someone with a sweaty palms. This also gives the signals to the interviewer is that you're you're very nervous, and this may not be something that you want them to know. Even if you find you're not one of those people who gets very nervous in interview situations. a handkerchief is useful in other situations, perhaps you accidentally spill water on yourself or suddenly sneeze or get a runny nose. And finally, while you're sitting there in those 10 minutes, I want you to focus on the present moment. Think about the now look around reception and start to imagine that what it would be like to work here, imagine turning up here every day.

Think how your day would go and what would you be doing? These thoughts will help you to get in the right frame of mind. And this will come across in how you communicate during your interview. Arriving for an interview is much like turning up for an exam. Firstly, you can't be late. And there's no point in trying to go over everything that you've researched and written down, as this is not the time or place.

Remember, you've gone through these lectures, you've done your planning, you've done your research, and you are now ready to go in there with confidence.
