    Questions - Cyclopam Tablet

Cylcopam comes under the class of antispasmodic, anticholinergic, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Cyclopam tablet contains Dicyclomine and Paracetamol as active ingredients which are used to treat stomach, period, and abdomen pains, Irritable bowel syndrome, painful menstruation, fever and other conditions. It works by increasing the pain threshold thereby increases the blood flow to the skin, heat loss and sweating thus relieving smooth muscle spasms of the gastrointestinal tract.

The evidence of safety with the use of Cylcopam during pregnancy is still not found. However, epidemiologic studies in pregnant women who were taking 40 mg/day of dicyclomine hydrochloride had not shown any increase in the risk of fetal abnormalities when given during the first trimester of pregnancy. There are not enough and well-controlled studies in pregnant women at the recommended doses of dicyclomine (80-160mg/day). The other active ingredient paracetamol remains the first line therapy of pain and fever in pregnancy. Newly published epidemiological studies proposed a possible relationship between paracetamol exposure in utero and attention-deficit–hyperactivity disorder/hyperkinetic disorder or adverse growth issues in children.

Women taking Cylcopam are advised to notify their gynecologist if they become pregnant or intend to become pregnant during therapy or are breastfeeding an infant.
