Why it's used

Levozine Tablet is used to relieve seasonal and year-round allergies. This medicine works by blocking certain organic substances, called histamines, in the brain and other areas of the body. Levozine is also used to treat severe allergies due to food, medicines, or other causes. This medicine helps by treating the symptoms of the allergic reaction including skin rashes.
Levozine belongs to a class of medicines called Antihistamines. Antihistamines help in relieving allergic symptoms. They do so by blocking the effects of histamines. Histamines are produced by the body and in-turn cause fever, itching, sneezing, a runny nose, or watery eyes in allergic conditions.

How to use

Follow directions on the product label, information guide, and provided by your doctor before using Levozine. Consume this medicine as per your doctor's instructions.
Levozine is consumed with or without food. Take this medicine as a single dose. Levozine is consumed usually in the evening. This is because Levozine may cause dizziness.

Typical Dosage

The typical adult dose of Levozine is 5 mg once a day. The typical dose for children is 2.5 mg once a day. Levozine is typically used at the same time every day. It takes 1 hour for this medicine to start its action. There are no known habit-forming tendencies with this medicine.
This medicine should be used on an as-needed basis. If used for the treatment of allergies, the medicine can be stopped once the symptoms have disappeared and can be restarted again if symptoms reappear. If you experience symptoms for more than four days a week or for more than four weeks a year, your doctor may ask you to continue the treatment. Your treatment may continue as long as you are exposed to substances that cause your allergy.
If using the liquid form of this medicine, measure the dose using the provided measuring cup, spoon, or dropper. Before pouring the medicine into the measuring device, you should check the measurement markings carefully. Then, pour the dose amount into the device. After use, clean and store the measuring device in a safe place for your next use. You should not use a tablespoon or teaspoon as the dose measuring devices since it can result in an incorrect dose. If indicated on the product package, shake the medicine before use.

Talk to Your Doctor

Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve. If you have any kidney disease, a low dose of Levozine will usually be given.
Taking a high dose of this medicine is known to increase the chances of side-effects. Older patients may see an increase in the risk of side-effects. Hence, a lower dose may be recommended.

Use in Children

If you are giving Levozine Tablet to a child, be sure to use a product that is meant for use in children. Before giving this medicine, use the child's weight or age to find the right dose from the leaflet or product package. Avoid Alcohol

Avoid drinking alcohol with Levozine.


Store Levozine Tablet at 20-25°C (68-77°F). Keep this medicine away from children and pets.
Medicines may be given for uses other than those listed in the medicine guide. Do not use Levozine Tablet for symptoms for which it was not prescribed. Do not give Levozine Tablet to others who may have similar symptoms as you. Self-medication can cause harm.

How to take Levozine

Dosage for minor kidney issues
In this condition, the recommended dose is 2.5 mg once a day.

Take this medicine in a single dose.

What to do if you overdose on Levozine?
No specific solution is known to cancel the effects of an overdose of Levozine.
Symptoms of an overdose of Levozine
If you use too much of this medicine, it could lead to dangerous levels of the medicine in your body. In such cases, symptoms of an overdose may include:

Precautions while using Levozine

Before you use Levozine, tell your doctor of your medical and health history including the following:
The risk of side-effects is higher in patients with kidney disease.
Before you use Levozine, tell your doctor if you are allergic to it or its ingredients. Your doctor may prescribe an alternative medicine and update your medical records to record this information.
The use of Levozine Tablet may change function of the kidneys. If you have a kidney disease, the functioning of your kidneys should be monitored regularly.

Use when Pregnant

Levozine should be used only when required in patients who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

If Breastfeeding

Levozine Tablet is not safe for use in women who are breastfeeding. If you are breastfeeding, discuss with your doctor if you should either discontinue breastfeeding, or stop using this medicine during this period. This medicine may pass into breast milk and hence use in mothers who breastfeed is not recommended.

If trying to Conceive

It is not known if this medicine is safe for use in women who are conceiving. Consult with your doctor before you use Levozine.


Avoid drinking alcohol with Levozine. Consumption of alcohol may cause with Levozine leads to a reduction in alertness and can cause accidents if you are driving, operating any machine, or any other activity that requires full mental awareness.


Levozine can make you feel sleepy. Be careful, especially while driving, while using heavy machinery, or when doing any activity that needs you to be completely alert. The consumption of alcohol with Levozine can worsen the sleepiness.

Levozine Side-effects

The following side-effects may commonly occur when using Levozine Tablet. If any of these side-effects worsen or last for a long time, you should consult with your doctor:

Rarely, the use of Levozine Tablet may cause the following side-effects:
  • abnormal liver function
  • confusion
  • depression

  • sleeplessness
  • swelling from excessive accumulation of fluid in tissues
  • uncontrollable body movements
  • uncontrolled urination
The following severe side-effects may also occur when using Levozine Tablet:
  • Life-threatening allergic reaction
    Symptoms: irritation in the eyes, swelling in the throat shortness of breath

Hazardous Occupations

Patients engaged in hazardous occupations are at an increased risk when using this medicine as this medicine causes you to feel tired, drowsy, and sleepy. Patients should not drive, or use machines, or get involved in activities that require mental alertness while using this medicine.

Alcohol Consumption

Patients who drink alcohol are at an increased risk when using this medicine. Reduction in alertness can happen when using Levozine with alcohol. As a result, this medicine should not be used in patients who drink alcohol.

Central Nervous System Depressants

Patients using medicines called as "central nervous system depressants" are at an increased risk when using this medicine. These patients may have a reduction in alertness. Such patients should be monitored closely for these changes.

Interactions with Levozine

When two or more medicines are taken together, it can change how the medicines work and increase the risk of side-effects. In medical terms, this is called as a Drug Interaction.

Xanthine Derivatives

Levozine Tablet may interact with theophylline, which is used to treat asthma and other lung related problems. Theophylline reduces the removal of Levozine from the body. This can increase the effects of Levozine on the bidy.

Antiviral Drugs

There may be an interaction of Levozine with ritonavir, which is used to treat HIV infections. Ritonavir decreases the removal of Levozine from the body. This can increase the effects of Levozine on the body.

Central Nervous System Depressants

Levozine Tablet interacts with central nervous system depressants which are used to slow down the brain activities. Using Levozine with brain depressants may lead to a greater reduction in mental awareness.


Special instructions need to be followed while taking this medicine along with cetrizine, which is used to treat allergies. Levozine increases the effects of cetrizine on the body.

Expired Medication

Taking a single dose of expired Levozine is unlikely to cause a side-effect. However, please discuss with your doctor or pharmacist, if you feel unwell or sick. An expired medicine may become ineffective in treating your prescribed conditions. To be on the safe side, it is important not to use an expired drug. You are much safer by always keeping a fresh supply of unexpired medicines.

Safe Disposal of Medication

  • If there are disposal instructions on the package, please follow the instructions.
