Why it's used

Clotrimazole is used to treat the fungal infection of the mouth. This medicine works by blocking the synthesis of a substance in the cell membranes of fungi. It may lead to functional and structural dysfunction of fungi. Clotrimazole is also used to reduce the incidence of fungal infection of the mouth in patients with reduced body immunity due to the treatment of blood cancer, kidney transplantation, or solid tumors by radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or steroid therapy.

The typical adult dose of Clotrimazole is 10 mg five times a day for continuously 14 days. The typical dose for children is 10 mg five times a day for continuously 14 days. This medicine is commonly used for a period of 14 days for fungal infection of the mouth. Clotrimazole is typically used at the same time every day. There are no known habit-forming tendencies with this medicine.

Missed Dose

Warnings

Patients with fungal infections affecting internal organs (systemic mycoses including systemic candidiasis) are at increased risk when using this medicine. This medicine should not be used to treat systemic fungal infections.
