I’m Jackie. It’s great to meet you.
I spend most of my time at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I’ve been fortunate enough to work and learn alongside leaders in higher education, marketing, and digital engagement as the University’s online marketing and social media manager since February 2018. I am primarily tasked with digital analytics for social media and website efforts coming from University Communications. Essentially, lots of charts, graphs, and data-driven decisionmaking. I have a deep passion for and experience in marketing, social media engagement, and content writing.
Outside of work but still work-like…
I am co-host of the Higher Ed Social Podcast, which is over 100 episodes and nearly 4 years old. Every other week, I join my co-host from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee and have an interesting conversation with a member of the higher education community. Guests range in years of experience, division, and location. We’ve even had a guest from Australia. I stay connected to the field through the podcast as well as serving as editor and contributor to Link: The Journal of Higher Education Web Professionals.
I am also the founder of ConnectEDU Network, the first podcast network for higher education. The shows on the network are hosted and produced by brilliant minds in the field, spanning from advancement to marketing. It has become one of the most incredible learning opportunities in my professional career and has been growing steadily since February 2018.
During my undergraduate years, I was heavily involved in Alpha Phi Omega, an international co-ed community service fraternity. After graduation, I maintained my involvement as an alumni volunteer as a member of the Region II staff and national presenter. Each year I attend 3-5 conferences working with students and alumni to help develop strong chapters and positive inter-chapter relationships with a basic working style assessment and exploration of how working styles can complement one another in a group setting. If you haven’t already guessed, I am qualified in this assessment as a “driver,” an assertive and goal-oriented individual who focuses on deadlines and results.
In case you were curious…
I grew up in Buffalo, New York – something I’ll likely talk your ear off about. I say pop, not soda, believe that Duff’s wings are better than Anchor Bar, don’t consider Canada as traveling “out of the country,” and root for the Buffalo Bills. I also hate winter.
A healthy lifestyle has become increasingly important to me over the past few years. I was motivated to focus on healthy foods and exercise habits in 2014, losing over 35 pounds since. I believe to be the definition of, “if I can do it, you can do it,” going from never running or doing anything athletic throughout my teen years to completing three half marathons within two years. This focus has given me new hobbies, friends, and experiences that I am forever grateful for.
Here you’ll find my professional work, academic work, and other neat tidbits of information about me and my life. Reach out to me anytime – I’m always willing to tell my story.
